Joint Conference
The first "joining" of the two conferences occured in 1985 for EP2DS-6 and MSS-2 in Kyoto, Japan. Tsuneya Ando (Chair of EP2DS) and Hiroyuki Sakaki (that of MSS) decided to hold the two conferences in parallel at the same location. The participants could freely come and go between the two. This form was reenacted in Nara, Japan, in 1991, again in Nara, 2003, and has been followed from then on.
EP2DS
EP2DS (International Conference on Electronic Properties of Two-Dimensional Systems; it started as EP"Quasi-"2DS) made its successful start on 24-28 August, 1975 at Brown University, Rhode Island, USA. In the early time, the scopes are limited mainly to two dimensional systems, such as electrons at surfaces, interfaces, or layered materials. But with expansion of participants' interest into lower dimensions, the conference is now covering almost all-dimensional systems.
The number of participants has been kept around 300, in order to make the conference stimulating and comfortable. As listed below, the proceedings have been published in well known journals.

MSS
MSS (International Conference on Modulated Semiconductor Structures) was started as "Metastable and Modulated Semiconductor Structures (MMSS)" on 6-10 December 1982, in Pasadena, California, USA. The conference received its present name in 1985 and, since then, it has been regularly organized in every 2 years. The purpose of MSS is to provide an international forum on the latest progress in the field of physics, formation, processing, and device applications of modulated structures.
The number of participants has been kept around 300, to make the conference stimulating and comfortable. As listed below, the proceedings have been published in well known journals.
